Editing music video

Lip Synching my groups video was very hard, we videoed footage one day then the following day when we was going to edit the footage was deleted from the camera. From this I learnt that we need to upload our footage every time we film to the computer to secure our footage.
I also learnt that editing is hard and time consuming trying to match up the music to the artists lip synching.

Class case study- music video

What are the conventions of music videos?
  • Standard length; 3-4 minutes
  • Visuals usually reflects the lyrics but sometimes music videos are abstract/conceptual
  • Focus on the artist as a star, e.g. low angle= high stars, close ups=repeated, costume might be aspirational - themed costumes. Costumes varies according to genres.
  • Star quality-"authorage"- the star's distinctive visual style.
  • Editing; fast cutting rate, many shots/scenes, cutting rhythm that's in sync with beat and lyric, lip sync- performance; dancing, playing instruments depending on genre.
  • Studio setting might be present

  • Fades/Lighting acts as an transition
  • Cutting rate various, slow shots. speeds up
